International Conference Follow-up, July 5, 2003
In an email to the Board of Directors of the IICPH, Marion Odell shared her post-conference thoughts. There are plans for a report, for an edited transcript of the proceedings, and more… We’re still working on all this at this point. Stay tuned!
Here are excerpts from Marion’s letter:
Rosalie (Bertell) and I were completely bushed after the conference. We went on the following Tuesday to Guelph where Rosalie spoke at a special event planned by the Guelph Peace Coalition. During the days following the conference, Rosalie also gave two videotaped interviews. I was very worried about the strain on her, but she did recover although it took a while. Her health was a major concern and, I think will continue to be. She has decided not to go to Pugwash for which I am grateful.

A meeting with two of the volunteers was held on Thursday July 4th. We had a debriefing on the conference. The consensus was that everything went well. Keri’s presentation was excellent. The other speakers and Rosalie thought it was well thought out and well presented and also praised Michelle for her excellent work MC-ing. A decision has been made to improve the overheads to make them more visible to a large audience.
Joanne and Keri thought is was great that the conference kept pretty well on schedule. Speakers were great, tables ditto and the food was wonderful and there was enough! It was decided that Keri will help with updating our contact lists. Joanne in particular mentioned the need to go forward toward education on a number of levels including politicians and academics as well as students and the general public. I suggested that we might look at developing a series of seminars or meetings where we could present the materials we have garnered from the conference and follow up from there on developing links to create solidarity between the concerned groups looking to i9ntrnet links to many countries. Joanne will develop protocols for future events.
